BILLINGS - We knew Senior High graduate Dani Aragon was fast. Now we know she's among the world's fastest in her age division.
Competing in Spain early Tuesday morning at the IAAF World Junior Championships, Aragon finished the 800 meter run in a time of 2:07:84, good enough to qualify for the next round. Aragon's time was third in her heat, with the top three finishers in each heat advancing. There were six heats. Aragon ran her personal best of 2:05:06 June 16th in Bloomington, Indiana, when she qualified for these World Championships. She'll has a full-ride scholarship to run track and field at Notre Dame starting this fall.
Ajee Wilson, who edged Aragon in Indiana, is the only other American to qualify in the 800. She also advanced Tuesday finishing second in her heat with a time of 2:07:07. Great Brittan's Jessica Judd turned in the event's fastest time in a blazing speed of 2:02:71.
The women's 800 semifinals start at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in Barcelona.
