Amtrak crash claims life of bulldozer driver, victim identified

TRENTON, ND - One man is dead after an eastbound Amtrak train struck a bulldozer Monday night in North Dakota.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Dennis McQueen, 45, of Williston, was driving the bulldozer and was ejected during the collision.

He was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Williston, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash happened nine miles west of Trenton at around 7:30 p.m. The bulldozer operator attempted to cross the tracks on the north side of Highway 1804, but due to a blind curve the train came around a corner and collided with the bulldozer.

No one on the train was injured, but officials on the train did not allow passengers to disembark to get rides with waiting friends until a replacement engine arrived. The 13 car Amtrak was carrying 326 occupants, including crew.

McQueen was a Williston resident.
