BOZEMAN - Montana State's athletic department says men's basketball player Xavier Blount suffered severe injuries in a weekend altercation. The school didn't elaborate on the incident, but confirmed the injuries may end Blount's season.
Court documents say the incident also involves an MSU football player and a track and field athlete. Bozeman Police are still investigating, but Bobcat sprinter Chris Wilson is charged with unlawful use of a license and disorderly conduct. Football player Roger Trammell has visable injuries to his hands and has been charged with misdemeanor assault.
MSU News Services Director Tracy Ellig says Blount was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital with head and shoulder injuries. The virginia native is averaging almost 13 points a game for the Bobcats.
MSU Director of Athletics Peter Fields said, "Our thoughts are with Xavier for a full recovery from these injuries. We are cooperating as Bozeman and Montana State University Police and the MSU Dean of Students Office investigate this matter."
Fields added, "The behavior alleged is unacceptable. We will not stand for it, and will deal with it in an appropriate manner through our Student Code of Conduct and Student-Athlete Code of Conduct."
The Bobcats host league-leading Weber State Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
